How do I repair scratches, dents or chipped edges on a door?

Light surface scratches on painted or lacquered doors can usually be treated with a matching touch-up pen or a fine polish. Deeper chips should be filled, sanded and re-sealed — on veneer, use a matching filler stick and a thin topcoat to keep the repair invisible. Always seal any exposed edge immediately; an unsealed chip is where moisture enters and swelling starts.
